Company history

From a small family firm to a trend-setter for elegant living – for more than three generations now, wood has played a decisive role in the life of the BAUR family firm. Experience in traditional craftsmanship, the use of ultra modern technology in our production combined with a feeling for design and a cosy ambiance have made the BAUR company successful.

Life style, a homelike atmosphere and a uniquely beautiful landscape – all of these are combined in the furnishings exhibition house in which the heart and soul and the innovative ideas of the creative brains of the house of BAUR are to be found.

The history of the BAUR enterprise

• 1882 Albert Baur (1858-1931)founded the company
• 1921 His son, Ernst Baur (1903-1986) joined his father’s firm
• 1931 Ernst Baur sen. qualified as a master craftsman in Freiburg im Breisgau
• 1932 Ernst Baur took over the company and began making rustic style chairs and various wood products.
• 1936 Erection of new workshop
• 1955 Production and worldwide sales of wooden toy animals
• 1960 New production building and for the first time the creation of rustic style furniture in own design
• 1973 Ernst Baur jun. took over the company
• 1976 New administration and exhibition buildings in Bernau-Dorf
• 1980 Erection of new production workshops in Bernau-Weierle
• 1991 Enlargement of production capacity in Bernau-Weierle and extension of exhibition rooms in Bernau-Dorf to over 1,000 m²
• 2000 Total destruction by fire of the administrative buildings and showrooms in Bernau-Dorf. The Baur family home was also affected by this fire.
• 2001 Building of new showrooms and administrative centre in Höchenschwand-Tiefenhäusern with a total area of 2,000 m²
• 2007 125th anniversary of foundation of family firm celebrated
• 2007 Production in Bernau-Weierle enhanced by the introduction of latest CNC technology and placed at the forefront of technological development. The plant is still considered to be one of the most modern in the trade.
• 2009 The BAUR Wohnfaszination company and the BAUR Black Forest Workshop for Furniture and Interior Decoration were awarded the ISO 9001 certificate. ° Since 2010 >ISO 9001
